Harold Elwood "Skip" Holmes Jr.

Harold Elwood “Skip” Holmes Jr., 74, of Manchester, NH, passed away on May 24, 2023 at the Community Hospice House. Born in Easton, PA on January 17, 1949, he was a son of the late Harold E. Holmes Sr. and Josephine (Crement) Bleau. He shared 47 years of marriage with his wife, Laurel (Whippie) Holmes.

Skip was raised in Nashua, NH and was a 1967 graduate of Nashua High School. He proudly served in the United States Army for 3 years. In 1981, he graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Skip enjoyed visiting the Nashua and Goffstown Fish & Game Clubs, where he liked to spend time socializing and target shooting. He had many fond memories of taking motorcycle trips in his younger years. In his spare time, he enjoyed building models of cars, airplanes, and military vehicles.

Skip is survived by his wife, Laurel Holmes; his daughters, Melanie Dampier and her husband Forrest and Kimberly Schulte; his sister, Mary Dumas and her husband Dennis; his grandchildren, Ryan, Jonah, Hayley, and Penelope; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Vincent Holmes and Laura Gardner.

Skip had retired after 42 years at BAE Systems. Once retired Skip enjoyed travelling. Skip and his wife often travelled to Hawaii where they enjoyed the beaches and the history of the different islands.

Skip was a loving husband, father and “Umpa”. He was always willing to help anyone with no expectations of anything in return.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 2^nd at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. Family and friends are invited to gather from 5-6PM with a Memorial Service to take place at 6PM.

In lieu of flowers, Skip’s family asks that donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
