HAROLD A. McFARLAND

BETHLEHEM, NH -- Harold A. McFarland, 88, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010 at his home of 58 years, after a short courageous battle with Mesothelioma.

Harold was born in Stark, NH on January 28, 1922, the son of Clarence and Ella (Clement) McFarland. He graduated from Groveton High School in 1940. He married Natalie Harriman in Whitefield, NH on July 6, 1943.

Harold was inducted on December 28, 1942, in the US Army 86th Mountain Infantry, 10th Mountain Division. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious service in combat on April 21, 1945, near Ravarino, Italy. He was honorably discharged from the Army on November 26, 1945.

When Harold returned home, he went to work for Raymond Little of Littleton, NH, as a heavy equipment operator. After a few years, he began working as an auto mechanic for Downing’s Garage in Littleton. In 1969, he began working for MacKenzie Auto Parts in Littleton, and remained there until he retired in 1987.

Harold was a member of the VFW Howard Shawney Post 816 in Littleton for 40 years, and was a member of the Odd Fellows Organization for 20 years. Harold loved to go boating and camping with his family. He was a member of the White Mountain Boat Club for 10 years. Harold and Natalie have spent the last 23 winters in Arizona.

He is survived by his loving wife, Natalie of 67 years; a daughter, Lucille McFarland of Bethlehem, a son, Gary McFarland and his wife, Diane of Bethlehem, grandchildren, Kenneth McFarland and wife, Sylvie of Pelham, NH, Amy (Pushor) Ingerson and husband, Tim of Bethlehem, and Dana McFarland and wife, Robyn of Woodsville, NH; plus 8 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Nathan, Christian, Nicholas and Taylor McFarland, Constance and Mikaela Allen, and Victoria Ingerson.

SERVICES – There will be no calling hours. At the convenience of the family, a private graveside service will be held at the Maple Street Cemetery in Bethlehem with Rev. Tracy Davis officiating. Memorial donations in Harold’s name may be made to the North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency, 536 Cottage Street, Littleton, NH 03561.
