Harrison M. Burns

Harrison M. Burns Jr., 75, of Poor Street, Manchester, NH died August 21, 2003 at home. Born in Manchester, he was the son of Harrison M.Burns Sr. and Winifred (Hawkins Whitcomb) Burns. He attended Central High School and Tilton Academy. He graduated from Plymouth Teachers College in 1951. He received his Masters Degree from Boston University. He taught many years in the Manchester School System, and was assistant principal at Hillside Junior High School until he retired. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII in the Pacific and Japan. He was involved in many groups and organizations. Harrison was a member of Raphael Social Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks, East Side Club, Club Canadian, Ancient Order of Hibernians in America and a life member of The American Legion. He is survived by four daughters; Dale Burns Benton of Alexandria, Shirley J. Burns of Portland, Oregon, Andrea Burns Martel of Amherst, Cynthia Burns Leathers of Goffstown; two sons, Gary P. Burns of North Andover, MA, Christopher D. Burns of Bedford; 14 grandchildren and his former wife, Joanne (Yeaton) Burns of Bedford. He is predeceased by; two brothers, Dr. Warren W. Burns of Concord and Arthur Burns of Manchester, and two sisters, Barbara Davis of Minneapolis, MN and Martha Lyon of New London. Memorial donations may be made to the Henry J. Sweeney Post 2 Baseball, 251 Maple Street, Manchester, NH. At the request of the deceased, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at PineGrove Cemetery for family members. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.
