HAZEL L. BROAD
LITTLETON, NH Hazel L. Broad, age 101, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2006, at her daughters home in Littleton, NH, after complications from a fractured hip in August.
Hazel was born on April 23, 1905, a daughter to Charles S. and Hazel (Faxon) Ludden, in Boston, MA. She grew up in Brookline, and graduated from Thayer Academy. She also was a graduate of Radcliff College in 1927.
Hazel lived in Newton, MA for 43 years before moving to Orleans, MA in 1972. After arriving in Orleans, she became active as the docents for the French Cable Station. She was a member of the Federated Church of Orleans and the Orleans Historical Society. She was a retired high school Chemistry teacher. Her real joy was a deep love and affection for the Girls Scouts of America.
She was the widow of the late Russell Broad, to whom she was married for 69 years. In 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Broad bought a camp on the north beach of Chatham, MA. They enjoyed every summer there.
She is survived by a son, Russell S. Broad, Jr. of Needham and Chatham, MA; a daughter, Priscilla B. Weston, of Littleton, NH; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
SERVICES A Memorial Service will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Thayer Academy, Federated Church, and the French Cable Station.
