Helen G. Boulogiane, 82, of Manchester, passed away in her sleep on October 20, 2006, at Hanover Hill Health Care Center.
She was born in Manchester, NH on May 27, 1924, the daughter of George D. and Efthalia (Ganoulis)Boulogiane, from Siatista (Macedonia) Greece, and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester. Helen attended Chandler Grammar School, Central High School and Hesser Business College. Affectionately known as "The Woolworth Girl" by her friends and colleagues, Miss Boulogiane worked for the F.W. Woolworth Company for 43 years. Of the many and varied positions that she held, Helen especially enjoyed office payroll clerk, office manager, and Merchandiser for Woolco. (a parent company). As a parishioner of the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Helen served for many years as a choir member and Sunday School Teacher and was a staunch advocate of many causes to help promote the understanding and meaning of Greek Orthodoxy in terms of its language and custom. In her lifetime Miss Boulogiane served in a variety of organizations: Girl Scouts, Y.W.C.A., Maids of Athens, Senior !
GOYA, Pan-Macedonian Society, the Siatista Society and the Anagenessis Society, among others.
IN HER LIFE: A few of Miss Boulogiane's recreational pastime's was going to Hampton Beach on Saturdays in the summer time with one of her friends; spending fun time with her with her godchild Stephen; working the Religious Booth on Glendi Days and watching Channel "41" Fox News. Helen was interested in politics and political figures. She knew the Depression, first hand and was finally lucky enough to see Prosperity (times) later on. She loved to quote and sign off all of her letters with F.D.R.'s Motto: "Faith, Hope, Love, Charity", and that's the way she lived her life.
Family members include two brothers, James and his wife Iphengenia Boulogiane of Boston, Massachusetts and Ted Boulogiane of Manchester.
SERVICES: A private ceremony took place on Thursday, October 26, in the Union Chapel at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street. The Reverend Peter Chamberis of Hebron, NH, rendered a Greek Orthodox Funeral Service. Ms. Alisa Thompson of the Latter Day Saints Church and friend of the family provided hymnal Church- organ music. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
