Helen R. Wilkins, 94 of Jamaica, VT passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017 at her residence. She was born, under the advice of the local Jamaica doctor, in New York City, NY on March 26, 1923; the daughter of the late Edward and Bessie (Forry) Bennett.
Helen attended the River School in East Jamaica, graduated from Leland & Gray Seminary. She and Fred were married in 1948 and raised four children on the family farm in East Jamaica. Helen went back to work as a clerical assistant at Grace Cottage Hospital Business Office, until her retirement. Helen enjoyed gardening, farming, sewing, making her own soap and butter.
She was a willing chaperone for many classes to Camp Keewaydin and Somerset Reservoir through the years. She enjoyed all the family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the great-great grandchildren. In her younger years, she picked blackberries, attended Four H camp and would go with her parents to pick ferns.
She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick Wilkins and a great-great granddaughter, Cecelia Dauchy.
She is survived by four children, Warren Wilkins of W. Townshend, Katherine Cobb and her husband Harry of Wardsboro, VT, Connie LaMarche of Jamaica, VT and Daniel Wilkins also of Jamaica; eight grandchildren, Warren Wilkins, Regina Donna, Melissa Buffum, Kristopher and Kevin Cobb, Laura Dauchy, Jared LaMarche and Tyler Wilkins; eight great grandchildren, Zachary and Miranda Wilkins; Travis, Gabrielle and Joshua Donna and Hunter, Haley and Hannah Buffum; and four great-great grandchildren, Collette Dauchy, Annie, Jana, and Cara LaMarche.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her grandson's, Warren Wilkins on Sunday May 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, Brattleboro, VT is assisting the family with arrangements.
