Henry Barbeau, 96, of Manchester died May 16, 2009 at the Villa Crest Nursing Home.
He was born on December 7, 1912 in Salem, MA the son of the late Medard and Adele (Desjardins) Barbeau. He was raised and educated in Central Falls, RI. He was a resident of Manchester for the past 69 years.
He worked in the Concord Mills for many years. Mr. Barbeau retired as a custodian in Hooksett in the Underhill school.
Mr. Barbeau was an active parishioner of St. Edmondâs Church. He was instrumental in beginning the music group at the church. Later he was a parishioner of St. Teresaâs.
He was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps. Henry had a love for music and was a self taught guitarist. He played the guitar in a band called The Gems and also gave guitar lessons. He was very proud of the fact that all of his grandchildren graduated from college, as he loved education. Henry also had a love for gardening and enjoyed giving away the fruits of his labor to his neighbors.
He is survived by his three sons, Roger Barbeau of Ludlow, MA, Gerard Barbeau of San Diego, CA and John Barbeau of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Sr. Colette Barbeau, PM of Hudson, NH and Mrs. Leonard (Jacqueline) Bienvenue of Auburn, NH; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Jeanne DâArc (Courchesne) Barbeau who died in 1967 and his second wife of 21 years, Doris (Gosselin) Barbeau who died in 1997.
Calling Hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 250 Coolidge Ave, Manchester on Tuesday from 8:00 to 10:00AM.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30AM at the Parish of the Transfiguration, Alsace St, Manchester.
Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Manchester. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Henryâs name can be made to the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, 182 Lowell Road, Hudson, NH 03051.
