Henry Walter Smith, 79, of Auburn, died at his home January 13, 2004. He was born in Dedham, Massachusetts on December 23, 1924, the son of the late Harold and Alma (Skane) Smith and resided in Wolfboro, NH for 45 years before moving to Auburn. Henry wintered in Groveland, Florida. He was a graduate of Tewksbury High Class of 1942, attended Michigan State and Williston Prep School. In his early years he worked in his dad's business, the Smith's Greenhouse in Tewksbury, Ma. Henry was a fighter pilot during WW II in the Army Air Corps. He owned and operated the Boulder Brook Lodges in Wolfboro, NH for 45 years. Mr. Smith retired as a Maintenance Director with the Portsmouth School District after many years of service. He belonged to the Wolfboro Snowmobile Club and the Twin Mountain Snowmobile Club. He loved car racing and belonged to the Indy Pit Crew Car Racing. Henry was an outdoorsman, loved boating and enjoyed his RV Motor Home. He was the widower of Jean (McAllister) Smith who died in 1988. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Family members include his wife, Shirley (Pelletier) (Baril) Smith of Auburn, a son, William J. Baril of Dunbarton, two daughters; Julie Nadeau of Auburn and Kathleen Cormier of Manchester, six grandchildren. IN HIS LIFE: He loved and enjoyed his six grandchildren; David Cormier of Manchester, Melissa Cormier of Long Island, New York, Zachary Cross, Chad Baril, both of Auburn, Alec Bauer of Dunbarton and Katie Baril of Dunbarton. SERVICES: Relatives and friends may call at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 O'Clock in St. Peter Church, Auburn. Entombment will be in Auburn Longmeadow Cemetery and burial will be in the Spring.
