Hilda Woodbury Goodnow died Monday, May 30 at home after four years of illness. She was born in St. Johnsbury, VT. On March 26, 1928, the daughter of Lester P. and Ruby Keneson Woodbury. The family moved to Boscawen in 1931 and as she grew up, she loved to spend summers at Shadow Lake, Concord, VT, with her paternal grandmother.
She was active in the 4-H program, excelling not only in sewing, but in exhibiting Ayrshire cattle. She was the first of three sisters to be NH State 4-H Safety Winners starting in 1947.
She married Charles Goodnow III on April 26, 1952 in a double wedding with her sister, Winifred. She and Charlie had two sons, Steven and Fred, both of Boscawen.
She loved nature, animals, history, and genealogy and in later life, enjoyed clowning with the Havenwood Clowns as "Twinkle." With her Pomeranian "Foxy" who she trained as a therapy dog, she volunteered at Peabody Home, Franklin and Merrimack County Nursing Home.
Her husband died in 1996. She is survived by sons Steven and Fred, both of Boscawen, and by granddaughter Marissa McMahon of Wilton, NH, and grandsons Josh Goodnow of Durham, NH, and Kevin Goodnow of Gorham, ME.
Also surviving are her sister Winifred Langtry of Contoocook, her brother Roger Woodbury of Concord, her sister Rhoda Hardy of Boscawen, her brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Mabel Woodbury of Dade City, FL, and sisters Lynne Preve of Loudon, NH, and Georgia Conwell of Belmont, NH, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Boscawen Congregational Church, UCC, on June 2, 2016, at 6 p.m. with the Pastor Rev. David Randlett III officiating.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Boscawen Congregational Church Food Pantry at 12 High Street, Boscawen, NH 03303, which she managed for many years and to which she devoted her life.
