Hortense ''Tess'' (Costa) DeMotta, 79, formerly of 55 South Main Street, Manchester, died March 29, 2000 at the Laurel Genesis Center in Bedford with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 2, 1920 in Fall River, MA, the daughter of Fidelio and Maria (Pereira) Costa and lived most of life in Fall River before moving to the Manchester area fourteen years ago. For 20 years, she owned and operated Mac's Lunch with her husband in Fall River. After that, she was a senior caregiver for the State of Massachusetts. She was the widow of William ''Mac'' DeMotta, Sr. who died in 1963. Family members include two daughters, Janice O'Connell of Weare and June Ekdahl of Goffstown; a brother, William DeMotta, Jr. of Weare; one grandchild, Lindsey O'Connell whom she loved more than life itself; a brother, Philip Costa of Fall River, MA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At the request of the family, services will be private. After cremation, urn burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on behalf of the caring and dedicated staff at the Laurel Center - Genesis Eldercare, 480 Donald Street, Bedford, NH 03110.
