Howard L. Ryan, Jr., 81, of Rindge, NH formerly of Brattleboro passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. He was born in Fletcher, VT; the son of the late Howard L. and Florence I. (Guyette) Ryan.
Howard served in the Korean War for 2yrs. Upon coming home from Korea, he spent 7 months in the VA Hospital in White River, VT. He attended the State School of Agriculture, graduating in 1956. Howard was employed as a truck driver for 27years at A.L. Root Transportation before his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Brattleboro. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, going to the beach, and swimming; often being the only one in the water in April & October. Howard's greatest hobby and passion was his golf orange 1963 C-500 antique truck, which he drove in the Brattleboro Veterans parade and attended truck many shows with.
He is predeceased by a daughter, Juanita Ryan and three brothers, Loren, David and William Ryan.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ryan of Rindge, NH; four sons, Loren Ryan of Pownal, VT, Richard Ryan of Readsboro, VT, Mark Ryan of CO and Greg Ryan and his wife Teresa of Okla.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be celebrated on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Morningside Cemetery at 1 PM. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Howard's name to Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, Ma 02114.
