Ian Edward Sargant, 85, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of his home, on Monday, February 20, 2023, in Hooksett, NH. He was born on June 4, 1937, in Ryde, Isle of Wight, England, the son of the late Eva (Mogford) and Norman Edward Sargant.
He was the beloved husband of Retta Mary (Atkinson) Sargant. They were married on July 21, 1958, in St. Bernadette’s Church, Ensbury Park, Bournemouth, Dorset, England.
Ian graduated at 16 from St. Peter’s Catholic School, Bournemouth, England. Previously, he was schooled at a Jesuit Boarding School in Rhodesia. After graduating, Ian worked at Sherry & Haycocks lumber yard, Poole, Dorset for 20 years. His last job was at British Rail as a Signalman for 18 years in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. He retired in 1992.
Ian was Roman Catholic and served as an alter boy. He greatly enjoyed fishing, going out with his friends discovering New Hampshire and following his beloved Newcastle United Football Club. After retirement, Ian served as a volunteer at the Alzheimer’s Association, Northallerton.
He is survived by his wife, Retta; son, Derek, grandchildren, Henry, Kyle, Ciaran and Euan; great-grandchild, Marjorie; daughter-in-law, Alicia; and granddaughter-in-law, Bernadette.
SERVICES: Visitation will be from 10:00AM – 11:00AM on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104. A funeral service will follow at 11:00AM. Family and friends are invited to attend.
