IDA MENTOR (CALLAHAN) GRAY
NORTH HAVERHILL -- Ida Mentor Callahan Gray, age 93, passed away peacefully in the Grafton County Nursing Home on Friday, May 19, 2006.
Ida was born on April 19, 1913 in Bath, New Hampshire the daughter of John and Lena (Chase) Callahan. Lena passed away in the epidemic of 1918 leaving her 6 children, who were raised by family and neighbors. Ida was raised by her Aunt Edith and Uncle Ned Atwood on a farm. She lived her life in Bath and Lisbon, New Hampshire and loved these communities, wondering why anyone would want to live anyplace else.
Ida was an excellent cook, sewed, knit, did crafts, gardened, grew beautiful flowers and for part of her life maintained 2 homes while raising a family and helping with farming. She was an active member of the Methodist Church in Lisbon, a member of the Eastern Star and Grange. She loved to socialize.
She is survived by her sister, Leona Geary of Concord, NH; her daughter, Mary Metz of Sherman Oaks, CA; 2 step-daughters, Betty Peterson of Lansing, MI and Patricia Blake of Lapeer, MI; a very close niece, Sylvia Martin of Bath, NH; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Those who knew her will continue to carry some of her with us. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Blake Gray; her daughter, Brenda Clement from Landaff; 2 sisters, Bessie Tewksbury from Bath, and Irene Connolly from Renton, WA; 2 brothers, John Callahan from Springfield, MA and Harry Poor from Bath.
SERVICES At the request of the family, all services will be private. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Lisbon, NH.
