Irene F. Franzen, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021 at the Maple Leaf Healthcare Center. She was born in Providence, RI to the late James Thomas and Susan Casey Murphy on November 22, 1925.
After graduating from High School in 1943 she attended and graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1946 with a Registered Nurse degree. Irene met her husband Stig in 1947 and they married on August 26, 1948.
While Stig attended the University of RI, Irene worked at the South County Hospital and later the Lying-In hospital from 1956 to 1968. Upon moving to New Hampshire in 1968, Irene was employed at the Elliot Hospital for 9 years and then was employed with a local family practitioner until her retirement in 1986.
Irene and Stig became "snow birds" for 22 years. She volunteered at a local hospital in Dade city for 10 years and then volunteered at her local Lutheran Church office for another 10 years until her husband Stig became ill. Irene was a member and greeter at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church & Mary-Martha Group as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Hooksett-ites.
Irene has now joined her husband Stig in heaven. She is survived by her son Bruce and his wife Darlyne; daughter Terry Seavey and her husband Bruce; 5 grandchildren Kendra Robert and her husband David, Kelley Seavey, Caitlin Seavey, Patrick Franzen and his wife Alyssa and Christopher Franzen; 6 great-grandchildren Cara & Leah Robert, Travis & Teagan Gallagher and Quincy & Finley Franzen, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Irene was extremely proud of her two children, Bruce & Terry, her five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.
Irene will be laid to rest alongside her husband on Monday, May 3rd at 12:00 PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
