Irene A. (Beaulieu) Martel, 90, died on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Martel was born on July 5, 1918, in St. Epiphane, Canada, the daughter of the late Bruno and Anna (Pelletier) Beaulieu. She moved to Manchester, NH at the age of 2 and was educated in Manchester. Mrs. Martel was a resident of Goffstown since 1954.
She was a proud native American of MicMac descent. Mrs. Martel enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, dancing, and traveling. She also loved raising her 10 little Indians and spending time with them.
Family members include; 4 sons, Samuel Martel, of Oak Brook, IL; Robert Martel, of Dunbarton; Victor Martel, of Goffstown; Leo Martel, of Dunbarton; 4 daughters, Rita Anderson, of Atkinson, NH; Eva L. Martel, of Goffstown; Patricia Frizzle, of New Durham; Claire Lafond, of Rockwall; TX; 25 grandchildren 40 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 1 sister, Patricia Gagne, of Bedford, NH; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martel was predeceased by her husband, of 65 years, Samuel L. Martel, who died in May 2008, and by her son, Paul Martel, and her daughter, Jeanne Dussault.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 29, from 2 â 4 P.M. and 7 â 9 P.M. at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 250 Coolidge Avenue, in Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, 10 A.M. at The Parish of the Transfiguration, Kelley Street, in Manchester. Committal prayers will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, in Manchester.
