Irene M. Nickerson

Irene Mildred Nickerson, 91, of Penacook, NH died Sunday, November 5, 2023, following a period of declining health.

Irene was born March 10, 1932, in Meredith, NH, one of 12 children of the late Henry and Rosanna (Mitchell) Foote. A lifelong resident of Penacook, she attended Penacook High School and worked for several local companies, including Hoyt’s, The Giant Store, Howard Johnson’s, Duncraft, Fox’s Hardware, and NHDMV.

Irene was the loving wife of Edgar Nickerson. Irene stayed active most of her life and in her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and skiing. She also loved crafting, spending the holidays with her children and grandchildren, and held lifelong membership with the VFW.  Irene had a great appreciation for nature and found great joy in the red cardinals that would frequent her backyard feeders. She was incredibly proud of her large family and loved to share stories of her parents and siblings.

Irene is survived by her children James Hammond (Terri Hammond) of Franklin, NH, Richard Nickerson of Boscawen, NH and Sandra Hazeltine of Penacook, NH, as well as 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by two of her children, Stanley Mancini and Donna Felbaum, as well as all 11 of her siblings, Oscar Foote, Helen Vigue, Margaret Rondeau, James Foote, Stanley Foote, Herberta (Pepper) Hammermeister, Thomas Foote, Kenneth Foote, Beverly Miller, Arthur Foote, and Shirley Geer.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, November 16^th 10:00am-11:00am at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King Street in Boscawen, NH. Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 in the funeral home chapel with cemetery committal following immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery on Village Street in Penacook. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Granite VNA in appreciation of the compassionate care the hospice staff provided.
