Major Irvin W. Bruneau, USAF Ret. passed away, peacefully at home in Guilford, VT, surrounded by his family, in accordance to his wishes, on October 15, 2014. He was born in Fall River, MA on May 29, 1928, the son of the late William & Winnifred Bruneau.

Irvin attended Bishop Coyle High School in Taunton, MA and St. Anselm College in NH, graduating class of 1950, with a degree in Chemistry. After college, he enlisted in the Air Force and served 2 years during the Korean War. He left the Air Force with the rank of Captain, but continued to serve as a reservist until 1980, retiring as a Major. After his military career, Irvin taught physics & chemistry in Mass. and was employed by C.E. Bradley Labs in Brattleboro until his retirement in 2002.

He was an active member of the Guilford community, including the Guilford Grange and the select board. He was a voracious reader, preferring mystery novels, sprinkled with history and nonfiction. Irvin played hockey for several years in the senior league, serving his turn as oldest player of the day in 2001-2002 at the age of 73. During his retirement years, he discovered a love for collecting and creating his own pottery.

He is predeceased by his wife, Jerilynn D. (Carley) Bruneau in 2011.

He is survived by his two sisters, Nancy Brady of Tiverton, RI and Joan Breen of Providence, RI; four children, Mark Bruneau, and his wife Lauren of Essex, VT and their children, Andrew, Emilie and Lily, Matthew Bruneau, and his wife Kelly of Williston, VT and their children, Maggie, Georgia and Henry, Hope Bruneau Reilly and her husband Christopher of St. Albans, VT and their children Kate and Charlotte, and Jessica Bruneau of Guilford, VT and her daughter, Jade.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass for family and friends will be celebrated on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 47 Walnut St., Brattleboro. Burial will follow at Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery in Brattleboro. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT is assisting the family with arrangements.
