IVOR BACH WATTS
PORTSMOUTH, RI -- Ivor Bach Watts, 95, died March 5, 2004 in Portsmouth, R.I. Mr. Watts was born March 12, 1908 in East Orange, N.J. the son of the Rev. William Henderson and Mary Gardiner Bach Watts.
Mr. Watts was a longtime resident of Nutley before retiring to Littleton, NH in 1974. He was very active in the Nutley community having served 6 terms on the Board of Education, one of those as President. He was instrumental in founding the sport of rowing at Nutley High School and served as a video photographer for the Nutley High School football team for many years. He was founder and first President of the Nutley Little Theater; a founder and former President of the Nutley Tennis Club; a long-time member of the Nutley Speakers Club, and Rotary International. He also served on the vestry of Grace Episcopal Church, and served for a number of years as Treasurer of the New Jersey Association of Boards of Education. The Nutley Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him as Man of the Year in the early 1970s.
Mr. Watts began his professional career with The American Transformer Co., in Newark, specializing in installing and marketing the first high fidelity audio transformers for movie theaters and high fidelity music reproduction. Later, he served as manufacturers representative for the Fine Colors Co., Paterson, and for many years for The Polymer Corporation of Pennsylvania, specializing in the application of extruded nylon and teflon to industrial needs. He retired from Polymer in 1974 and moved to Littleton, N.H. where he was also active in civic affairs having served as member and Chairman of Littleton Water and Light Commission, as a member of the Board of North Country Home Health Association and the vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church.
Mr. Watts was an avid hiker in the White Mountains and was a life member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
He is survived by two sons, Robert B. (Linda) of Portsmouth, R.I., and David H. (Michaelin) of Menlo Park, CA.; one daughter, Eleanor W. (Stuart) Flavin of Newark, N.Y., former daughter-in-law, Rita B. Watts of Houston, TX, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and a nephew. He was pre-deceased in 1998 by his wife of 65 years, Alice Krager Vandoren Watts, and by two sisters, Mary W. Gravatt, and Elizabeth W. Doyle.
SERVICES -- A funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Church in Wellesley, MA. on Monday, March 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ed Putnam officiating. A calling hour will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, NH on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 with committal rites given by Rev. Carl Schaller immediately following in the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton.
