J. Gail Barry (Smith)

J. Gail (Smith) Barry, 83, died 7, July 2022 at her home in Manchester, NH. She was a lifelong resident of Manchester, born on 29 December 1938, the daughter of Walter Smith and Janet (Fischer) Smith.

She was the wife of Robert Barry. They were married on 15 May 1959. They had three children: Michaela Barry and her husband Wes Worrell, Matthew Barry and his wife Brenda Barry, and Rebecca Rumfelt and her husband John Rumfelt. She had two grandchildren: Morgan Baumann and David Barry.

A 1955 graduate of West High School, Gail also graduated from Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing/Mount Saint Mary's College, 1959.

Gail’s work experience includes Treasurer/Vice President, InterPak Inc., 1990-2000, Consumer Protection Volunteer, State of New Hampshire Department of Justice, 1991-1995, Co-Owner, U-Fix It Yourself Auto Repair, 1970-1977, Registered Nurse/Head Nurse, Sacred Heart Hospital Pediatrics, 1968-1972, and Registered Nurse, Boston City Hospital.

Gail was proud of her time serving as a member of the New Hampshire House of representatives and other roles serving the people of the state. Her many achievements include President/Vice President, Greater Manchester Federal Republican Women, 2000-2004, 2nd Vice President/Treasurer, New Hampshire Federal Republican Women, 2000-2004, Chair, Manchester Concerned Taxpayers, 2001-2002, and Historian/President/Vice President, Member New Hampshire Order of Women Legislators, 1985-present. She was also a candidate for State Senate in 2000.

SERVICES: A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM.
