J. Paul Goulet Manchester, NH Age 85 died Saturday June 18, 2005 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester. He was born in Manchester, NH on October 23, 1919, the son of Joseph N. and Marion (Legendre) Goulet. Paul was a native son of Manchester, graduating from Manchester High School Central in the Class of 1937. He attended St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH for two years, and was later made a member of the Office of Golden Anselmians for the class of 1941. While attending Trinity College in Hartford, CT. he worked at Pratt and Whitney. He went on active duty in the Navy on July 1, 1943 while at Trinity in the V-12 program. He graduated from Trinity College in the class of 1944 (in absencia). Mr. Goulet also graduated from Columbia Midshipman School and was commissioned an Ensign in February 1944. He served aboard LST918 as Gunnery Officer as a Lieutenant J.G. and took part in the D-Day invasions of Leyete and Lingayen Gulf. He also served in the Philippines and Okinawa. After WWII, he attended Georgetown, Northeastern and Suffolk Law schools. In addition, he was President of the Dale Carnegie Course in the late 1940s. In the 1950s he worked for Mutual of Omaha and also the Herman Davis Insurance Agency of Concord, NH. During this period, Paul was an active member of the Manchester Jaycees. In addition, he was the Alderman of Ward 4. From 1960 to 1963 he taught seventh grade at Bakersville School. He later became Assistant Director for New Careers and worked in the Planed Prosperity Program for the then Manchester Bank. He received a Master of Education in Guidance Counseling and taught at Green Acres School from 1970 until his retirement in 1983. During his retirement, he was President of MARTA (Manchester Area Retired Teachers Association) for two terms, and later President of NHRTA) New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association). Paul was an avid duplicate bridge player and an active member of the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). He was a communicant of the Parish of the Transfiguration Church, as well as a lector. He was married to the former Juliette Legare of Nashua, NH for forty-eight years. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by four children, Gerry Goulet of Boston, MA., David Goulet of Epsom, NH., Pamela Earnest of Ocala, FL., and Marie Lachance of Dunbarton, NH. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive him. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Phaneuf Funeral Home & Crematorium West Side 250 Coolidge Avenue Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Church of The Transfiguration in Manchester. Burial will follow at St. Augustin Cemetery in Manchester.
