J.-Leo Arcand, 79, Professor of 43 years dies. J.-Leo Arcand, 79, of 25 English Village Road, Manchester, died at Courville At Manchester on December 31, 2000, after a long illness. He was born in Cap- De-La- Madeleine, Quebec Canada on April 12, 1921, the son of the late Henri and Annette (Fugere) Arcand. He received his B.A. Pedagogy at the University of Montreal, his M.A. Pedagogy at the University of Montreal and his M.A. in Linguistics at Columbia University of New York City. J.-Leo studied at University of Michigan, Ann Harbor and Villa Nova University. He taught in Portsmouth, England, Spain, Cameroun, Nigera, USA and Quebec. He was a professor at Laurentian University of Sudbury, Ontario. He was an avid sportsman, he was involved in a lot of volunteerism, and was a Knight of Columbus. Family members include his wife of 33 years Virginia (Marchand) Arcand of Manchester, several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 in St. Patrick Church. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Avenue, in in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers Masses will be accepted.
