James Roland Allen passed away on April 10 at the Merrimack County Hospice Unit in Boscawen, NH. He was 75 years old.
Fondly referred to as Jim, the “Tree Guy”, was born in Concord, NH on June 19, 1947. Until a stroke in 2019, Jim owned and operated Jim’s Tree Service for many years. Even in the months before his passing, family would take him on road trips, and he would point out the many neighborhoods where he provided tree service.
One of his favorite road trips was a drive to Old Orchard Beach to take walks along the shore and do some people watching. It apparently was a place that gave him joy and serenity.
Jim lived in Penacook most of his life and graduated from Penacook High School. He earned a degree in chemical engineering from Lowell Technological Institute. He served in the Army National Guard.
Jim was known for his tall tales, at one point claiming that he had wolverines living under his mobile home that he had to fight off with a shovel. He also claimed to be a world class skier and that he still possessed his extremely long championship skis, which family never saw. Then there was his imaginary brother, Peter Schenley, who he claimed lived in the basement bulkhead.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Roland and Mary Allen, who he cared for until their passing. Jim leaves behind his sisters, Carol Breault of Penacook, Beth Allen of Salt Lake City, Utah and brother Rick Allen and wife, Linda Allen of Concord. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, and grandnephews: Anne Breault, David Breault and wife Audra and son Daniel Breault, Lindsay Allen and husband Charlie Boyle and sons Everett and Theo Boyle, Jennifer Allen, Katherine Allen and fiancé Brandon Rubenstein, Nate Blouin and wife Jackie Rosen, Heather Ridondo and husband Josh Ridondo and son Theo Ridondo.
Jim was a good man with a soft heart and will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For updated service information please visit Jim's online memorial at https://phaneuf.net/.
