James F. Burns, Jr., 77, of Manchester, died May 10, 2004 at Myrtle Manor. He was born in Manchester on December 7, 1926, the son of James F. and Mabel (Evirs) Burns, Sr., and had been a Manchester resident for most of his life. He was a World War II and Vietnam Navy Veteran. Earlier in his career, he was a policeman with the Manchester Police Department. He had also been an accountant with the Department of Employment Security in Concord. After that, he worked for the United States Treasury Department in Washington, DC until his retirement. He also had belonged to the Naval Reserves. He was the widow of Anna (Uperti) who died in 2001 and was predeceased by a son, James F. Burns, III who died in 1992. Family members include a son, Thomas Burns of Saratoga, CA; five grandchildren and several nephews, nieces and cousins. A memorial gathering will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Thursday morning from 9 to 10 AM with a memorial service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 10:00.
