James Jim Garrick Byrne, 65, of Bedford, NH died October 3, 2006 at Brigham and Womens Hospital of a sudden illness. Born August 29, 1941 to Edward Garrick Byrne and Loretta McGuire Byrne of Ft. Riley, KS. Jim grew up with two sisters, Marcella and Lynette in Kansas and in Germany as Jims father was a career military officer. Jim studied civil engineering at Kansas State University. In 1961 he enlisted the Army and his keen mechanical abilities led him to working with the Hawk Missile System. In 1963 upon discharge from the Army, Jim accepted a position with Raytheon, the manufacturer of the Hawk missile. As an engineer and program manager, Jim worked for Raytheon on missile and radar systems for his entire professional life. In addition to many places in the US, Jim worked and lived all over the world, including the Far East, Mid East and Europe. He met his wife Maria of 39 yrs, while working in Korea. They were married on March 17, 1967 and had two children, Michael and Patrick. After retiring five years ago, Jim kept busy with projects large and small around their homes in Bedford, NH and Naples, FL. where he and his wife spent winters. Jim enjoyed carpentry, gardening and all things Irish. He loved spending time with friends and family while they enjoyed his sharp wit and great sense of humor. Above all, Jim was a loving husband and father. He was a man of honor, principle and he always had the love and respect of those fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his wife Maria, son Michael of San Diego, CA, son Patrick and wife Tanya of Newburyport, MA and their son Jack. Services: Visiting hours will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Home, Manchester, NH on Sunday October 8, 2006 from 2PM to 5PM. Donations can be made in Jims memory to the American Cancer Society.
