James E. Canny

James E. Canny, 78, of Allenstown, passed away at the Elliot Hospital on May 22, 2025.

Born in Ottumwa, IA on January 21, 1947, the son of the late Frederick and Irene (Walker) Canny. He attended the University of Iowa and William Penn College. He worked for NYNEX for many years in a variety of roles. Jim enjoyed trains and model railroading. He was an avid cook, enjoyed trivia, and word games. He also enjoyed watching football particularly the Hawkeyes and the Chiefs. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a true renaissance man and had a unique sense of humor. He was predeceased by his wife Benna Joy (DeYoung) Canny who died in 2009.

Family members include his son, Jefferson Canny and his wife Andrea of Londonderry; two daughters, Jennifer Holland of Allenstown, who was also his caregiver, and Jessica Buckjune and her husband Christopher of Deerfield; six grandchildren, Ben, Domenic, Charlie, AJ, Grace, Thatcher and his partner Allison Somerset; and one great grandson, Jonathan Jefferson “JJ.” He also has a brother, John Canny of Indianapolis; as well as several nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, on Thursday, May 29that 10:00 AM. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. For more information or to view on line memorial, go to www.phaneuf.net.
