C. James (“Jim” / “Dewey”) Doherty, 68 of Deerfield Beach, Florida, originally of Manchester, NH passed away on March 2, 2025 after a long illness.
Jim, the youngest of four boys was born on July 18, 1956 to the late Clarence J. Doherty and Gertrude (Kelley) Doherty.
He was a 1974 graduate of Trinity High School. He was active in sports playing baseball, football and golf and helped manage basketball through his high school years. He was also a member of the student council. He attended Plymouth State College and earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1979 and worked for Nabisco Candy Corporation as a salesman for several years. Later he studied physical therapy at Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH earning a master’s degree and graduating cum laude in 2000. He practiced physical therapy in western NH before moving to Portland, Maine then to Florida in 2014 where he enjoyed the beach and playing golf.
Jim was easy to get along with and always made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed travel and had visited several countries in Europe. He loved sports, especially his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. He especially loved visiting with family on holidays and during special visits home.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers John and Edward Doherty. He is survived by his brother George Doherty and wife Susan of Newbury, NH, nieces Kelley Lavin and Neil of Manchester, NH, Erin Zotto and Nick of Greenfield, NH and nephew Michael Doherty and wife Stacey of Newbury, NH, and grand nieces and nephews Jack, Lucy, Cara and Jay.
A memorial gathering will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester on Tuesday, April 15th from 6 to 8 PM. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16th at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Cathedral with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
