James B. Gill, a devoted husband, accomplished engineer, and passionate historian, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on March 27, 1946, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, James grew up with a love for the ocean, spending his youth sailing and fishing along the picturesque New England coastline.
James excelled academically, earning dual bachelor's degrees in mechanical and environmental engineering. His career began at Sanders Associates in Nashua, NH, in the 1970s, where he honed his skills before joining the State of New Hampshire's Department of Environmental Services. For 40 years, James contributed significantly to wastewater management, pollution control, and drinking water systems, dedicating his expertise to protecting the environment and public health.
A longtime resident of Boscawen, NH, James shared over 40 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Lucille Estee Gill, who predeceased him in 2012. Together, they nurtured a deep love for the ocean and made countless memories at Biddeford Pool, Maine, where they rented the same beach house for 30 consecutive years. These summer family reunions were cherished traditions, eagerly anticipated by relatives from both sides of the family.
An avid historian, James immersed himself in the study of world and U.S. history, devouring countless books and sharing his knowledge with the enthusiasm of a professor. His storytelling brought history to life, and he could often be found watching historical documentaries or the History Channel.
James is predeceased by his wife, Lucille Estee Gill, his parents, Bernard Gill and Helen Skylarski Gill, and his sister, Janice Gill Haskell.
James is survived by a loving extended family, including his in-laws: Daniel Estee of Bow, NH; Brian and Robin Estee of Wauchula, FL; Linda Estee of Dover, NH; and Margaret (Peggy) Estee of Scarborough, ME. He also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews: Richard Gordon Haskell of San Antonio, TX; Caitlin (Estee) Rackett of Northfield, NH; Jeffry Mark Haskell of Cove Springs, FL; Tyler Estee of Woburn, MA; Alexandra Weber of Rollinsford, NH; Sheryl Ann Haskell of Garland, TX; Nicholas Estee of Oviedo, FL; Anthony Estee of Candia, NH; Benjamin Estee of Bedford, NH; and Michelle Estee of Madbury, NH.
