James E. King

Manchester, NH -Beloved husband and father James E. King, 82, died peacefully at Ledgewood Bay Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility in Milford, NH on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 surrounded by his loving family, following several years of declining health from Alzheimer's disease. He was born on May 28, 1932 in Clarksburg, MD and was the son of the late Henry and Edna King (Norwood) Nicholson.
He graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD in 1950 and proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Navy (1951-1955). Jim was a Navy corpsman with the Marines during the Korean War followed by an assignment at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington DC until his discharge.
Jim relocated to MN to begin a career in sales management in the retail furniture industry. In 1973, opportunities brought him to Florida where he was extremely instrumental in making Modern Age Furniture a highly successful and profitable company. Jim later worked in the swimming pool business where he was the first to market and sell nationally and internationally, a new and innovative pool cleaning system originally developed in South Africa called Kreepy Krauly. He loved his work and continued in the furniture business part time until 2007 until his retirement. Jim lived in Florida until 2014, when he and his wife, Karen, moved to New Hampshire to be closer to family members.

Jim had a great love of family and especially adored his children and grandchildren. He took delight in raising his children to be their very best. He always focused on the positives in life and loved to help others grow and achieve. Jim will be remembered as a true gentleman. He treated everyone he met with warmth and respect and showed appreciation for the littlest things people did for him. Through the years, he remained special to the end. He was a strong yet kind and gentle man and will not be easily forgotten.

Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 14 years, Karen King, 8 wonderful children, Michael King of Bloomfield, MI, Brian King of Apex, NC, Kenneth King of Altamonte Springs, FLA, Timothy King of Union City, IN, Janet Wright of Pleasant Grove, UT, Teresa Moore of Waconia, MN, Kevin King of Tampa, FLA, and Kelly Hough of Newberry, FLA, 9 terrific grandchildren, brother, Henry (Ticky) King, sisters, Janie Nicholson and Lorna Jeanne Leonard, and many other family members and loving friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister Sisse Schwartzbeck and his brother Larry King.

Karen King and family would like to extend a special thanks to Ledgewood Bay for their care and compassion for Jim while Ledgewood was his home. Karen also would like to give thanks for the kindness and support they gave her as they worked together to provide Jim the best quality of end of life care.
