James E. Romano, 95, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2024. James(Jim) and his late wife, Dolores, were blessed with 70 years of marriage. He was born in Stamford, CT on December 25, 1928, the son of the late Anthony and Filomena(Volante) Romano.
James enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. He served during the Korean War and was very proud of his service to his country. His service was followed by a successful 40 year career with Sorensen in Norwalk, CT and Raytheon in Manchester, NH.
Jim enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking projects, helping with renovation projects, and in his earlier days, a competitive game of racquetball.
He was predeceased by five brothers, and three sisters. Family members include four daughters, Susan Newton and her husband Charlie of Manchester, Cindy Benson and her late husband Gavin of Londonderry, Nancy Fothergill and her husband James of Londonderry, and Jamie Romano and her spouse Delia of Manchester; five grandchildren, Amy and her husband Shawn, Jessalyn, Rachel and her fiancé Connor, Chaz and his wife Sawyer, and Julia; three great granddaughters, Charley, Sailor, and Harper, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Jim was a kind-hearted soul who enjoyed talking with people, organizing luncheons with friends, sharing stories of his past and sharing treats with family, friends, and acquaintances. He was affectionately known as the "candy man", sharing bags of mints with all who crossed his path.
The most important thing in Jim's life was his family. He enjoyed spending time together on the holidays, vacations together with Dolores, family summer vacations "at the lake" and just watching a movie together. He will lovingly be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the Elliot VNA Hospice team and Jim’s devoted caregivers, Angerlina and Ana.
