Emblem

James E. Wood, 89, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023 with his family by his side. He is the loving husband of the late May (Self) Wood with whom he would have celebrated over 40 years of marriage.

James was born on March 7, 1934 in Maine to the late John and Helen Wood. Shortly after high school, James enlisted in the US Air Force and was proud to say he chose to serve his country during the Korean war. He worked as a data processor for the town of Meriden, CT and eventually moved to New Hampshire where he continued his career. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, and playing music for his church. James and his wife spent the winters in Florida and built a strong community around them. He loved to play the guitar and would often travel to different places to play music for people to enjoy.

James is survived by his son David Wood and his wife Donna of Manchester, and his stepdaughter Amy DelVecchia of Moultonborough; grandchildren, Teagan Cale, Hayden Cale, Jim Wood III, Scott Wood, Timothy Wood, and Edward Wood; a great grandchild, Catherine Wood and one more on the way; his sister Rhoda Allen; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife May Wood; son James Wood, Jr; and siblings, Arnold “Dick” Sprague, Ramona Sprague, John Wood, Ella Jackson, and Elsie Munson.

A committal service will be held on Friday, January 19th at 12pm at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery Chapel in Boscawen. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend.
