Jan Eden Harris had a magical presence wherever she went, bringing love and warmth into everything and everyone. She was generous with her time, showing care through acts of service and through deep affection for others. Her strength and resilience were moving and her fighter spirit evident to everyone around her.
On August 23, 2025, she passed away peacefully at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, under the care of their extraordinary and attentive team. In 2008, Jan had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and her fighter spirit resulted in her survival. After 17 years of continuing to live a full life, the cancer came back even stronger. She took on a new fight for comfort, peace, and dignity in her remaining days.
Jan was born in Syracuse, NY to Ann and Alan Horlick and their family originally lived in Peabody, MA then to Londonderry, NH. After graduating from UNH with her Bachelor’s and from Suffolk University with her MBA, she lived a full life building a successful career, traveling the world, building community, honoring God, being an activist, and raising her daughter as a caring, inspirational single mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Jackelyn (Jackie) Harris, two siblings, Lisa and Phil. Her daughter was her pride and joy, and her spirit will live on through Jackie. The two of them were blessed to spend time together eating their favorite foods, walking on the beach, going on adventurous trips, laughing, snuggling up to watch their favorite shows, and celebrating Jackie’s adoption day one more time before her passing.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 12 from 5-7 PM at Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. Please stop by and share your favorite memories about Jan with her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pact Adoption Alliance based in California (https://pactadopt.org) who focus on ethical adoption of children of color and offer services for transracial adoptions in Jan’s honor.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Hyder Family Hospice House care team and Granite State Church of Christ for their care and support.
