Jane C. Handley was born during a snowstorm on Monday, January 11, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey, to June (Palmer) and Jesse Conley. Following a lengthy illness, she passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2026.

Jane was raised in Barton, Vermont, alongside her seven siblings. She excelled in school and, following high school, married Douglas Handley. Together they welcomed two daughters, Emmy, and Sarah.

Jane had a lifelong passion for board games, music, and reading. She was rarely without a novel in progress and was always happy to recommend a favorite book to family and friends. Jane retired at the age of 69 from Littleton Coin Company after 26 years of dedicated service.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Emmy (Handley) Hatch of Whitefield, New Hampshire, and Sarah (Handley) Spaulding and her husband, Ben, of Milton, Vermont. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Bailey Hatch, Eli Beaulieu, Lucy, Reina, and Max Spaulding.

She is further survived by her siblings, Jesse (Karen) Conley, David (Cheryl) Conley, John (Gloria) Conley, and Rose Conley, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jane was predeceased by her parents; her partner, Kenny Baker; her brother, Sam Conley; her nephew, Charlie Royer; and her niece, Laurie Landry. She also continued to mourn the loss of her two best friends and sisters, Anna, and Mary.

Jane's quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and loving nature will live on through her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Matthews family, Kyle, Ashley, Alira, and Ari, for the kindness, friendship, and support they provided to Jane throughout her illness during the past year.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12th from 2:00pm- 4:00pm at The Kitchen Counter Café (397 Railroad St. Suite 1, St. Johnsbury, VT).
