Jane A. Haskell, 95, died peacefully on Saturday April 13, 2024, at Merrimack County Nursing Home.
She was born in Dover, NH, the daughter of Amy (Towle) and Harold Brownell. She was a graduate of Dover High School. While in high school she excelled in academics and sports; enjoying basketball, field hockey, tennis, and volleyball. After starting a family, she moved to Boscawen, where she lived for 60 years.
She worked for the Merrimack Valley School District for 33 years, mainly in the middle school where she enjoyed chaperoning many Washington D.C. trips.
Jane was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts and a Girl Scout leader for many years in Boscawen. She was a leader for the senior canoe team for the Swiss Water Girl Scout Council, where they won many accolades, and a member of the NH Merrimack Valley Extension. She was an active member of the Penacook Historical Society and the former Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the youth group. She also loved attending local and annual events in the Concord area with friends and family.
Her love of sports as a young woman continued throughout her entire life. She enjoyed hiking, kayaking, biking, and the outdoors. She hiked most of the mountains in NH. Well into her seventies and eighties, she did yoga, Strong Living, and traveling through Always an Adventure group.
Jane was also known for her love of traveling. For over thirty years she traveled all over the world, visiting many different countries. Some of her favorite countries she explored were Switzerland, Italy, and Costa Rica. She also traveled extensively across the United States, visiting Alaska and Hawaii many times.
She was predeceased by her husband Melvin Haskell, her sisters Barbara Sleeper and Beverly Allaire, both of Dover, NH, and her close nephew Robert Wyatt of Concord. She leaves her four children, son Bruce Wyatt and his wife Lynn of Loudon, daughter Donna Preve and her husband Paul of Hopkinton, son David Wyatt and his wife Martha of Concord, and her youngest son Scott Wyatt and his partner Kathy of Loudon. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great great children.
The family will receive visitors 5:00pm-6:30pm Friday, April 19, 2024, at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King Street in Boscawen. A memorial service will follow at 6:30pm in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Merrimack County Nursing Home, make checks payable to Merrimack County Nursing Home, note "Designated for Special Care Unit" in the memo field, and mail to 325 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH 03303 or to Girl Scouts of Green and White Mountains online at https://www.girlscoutsgwm.org/.
