JEAN JASAK
CONCORD, NH Jean Jasak, passed away June 4th in the loving and devoted care of both her family and staff at Harris Hill Center in Concord.
Jean possessed a great wit and sense of humor that never faded to her last day. She would always acknowledge someone with the words, "Hi Dear . . ." before she would offer them a smile and always a kind and gracious word that would hopefully brighten their day. People would always enjoy an encounter with Jean and would come away the better for it -- a more gracious woman you would never find. More than once it was said that Jean was the most positive person they knew; some said an inspiration. Jeans greatest passion was her sense of duty and love for her family. Family was always first; other endeavors could wait.
Born on October 14, 1917 in Knoxville Tenn. to the late William H. and Vera S. (Talbot) Durkee, Jean moved throughout the United States with her family, attending schools in Missouri, Utah, California and Oregon, spending the years before and during World War II in Los Angeles and San Francisco . After WWII she moved east to her maternal familys roots in Stoughton, Mass. where she met her husband of 34 years, the late Stanley P. Jasak. They were married in Brockton, Mass. February 1950 and moved to Littleton, NH in 1954 where they purchased a ladies fashion store named Libbeys and built their new home together on the Bethlehem Road. Jean chose to stay at home and devote her every waking minute to her children and husband until "the kids" were grown. In 1972 she felt that it would be OK to join her husband at the Libbeys where she would welcome and help customers, as well as travel to Boston to buy the latest fashions for the store.
Later in retirement she moved to Concord in 1986. She joined the communities at Granite Ledges and Harris Hill Center where she made many new friends and became a vibrant part of the lives of the residents and staff. She would never miss an activity or outing, especially the musical venues that were the height of her day. There was rarely a tune from the 1930's and 1940s that she wouldn't join in, singing along word-for-word. It could be said that most people are better off and richer in their lives for having been a part of Jeans life. Today the world is a smaller and emptier place without her. Heaven has received a gift with her presence.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Lisa and her partner, Scott Wilde of Malden Mass., sons, Peter and his wife, Barbie of Murfreesboro Tenn., and Bill and his wife Deb of Hopkinton NH, stepson, Robert Jasak and his wife, Sondra of San Diego Ca., stepdaughter, Barbara Shields and her husband Frank, two grandchildren, Laura Hackney and David Jasak both of Tenn., great-grandson, Dylan Jasak of Tenn., a brother, John Durkee of Hawaii and sister, Mary Louise McPheeters of Missouri. Three brothers predeceased her.
SERVICES Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7th at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Andrews Church in Hopkinton, NH, with Deacon Will Ottery officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton, NH.
