Heaven had an opening for an angel and on October 30, 2023, Jeffrey Speller was summoned to fulfill that role. His departure is much too soon, and he will be greatly missed, having touched countless lives here on earth.
Jeffrey, lovingly known as Jeff, was born on June 1, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Luther Albert Speller and Josephine (Cherry) Speller. As a young child, Jeffrey’s family relocated to Long Island, NY where he received his primary and secondary education and excelled in sports. He went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. In later years, Jeffrey enhanced his education and acquired a degree in Risk Management, along with several other certifications related to his career in the insurance industry.
For over three decades, Jeffrey was an accomplished insurance executive experienced in leading strategic initiatives that enhanced operations for large insurance companies. At the time of his passing, Jeffrey held the title of Vice President of Client Services for NFP Insurance, where he was extremely valuable to the organization, his clients and colleagues. Prior, he spent 15 years of his career with Chubb Insurance, where he was the Assistant Vice President of Client Services.
Jeffrey was actively involved with a number of organizations, serving on the Board of Trustees for Trumbull Loves Children, Inc. and the National African American Insurance Association of Boston (NAAIA). He was also a dedicated supporter of the Springfield, MA based non-profit, I Found Light Against All Odds; including participating in their annual golf tournament.
He will always be remembered for his love and commitment to the game of golf. Over the years, Jeffrey spent countless Sundays on the green, as a member of courses throughout the region. However, he found the most pleasure in taking part in yearly golf trips and bonding with many close friends he acquired over the years.
Jeffrey leaves behind to cherish his precious memories, his wife Morela Speller of 36 years, only child Ciara Speller and grandpup Bruno Speller, sister Patricia Speller, brother Ron Speller and sister-in-law Cynthia Speller, sister Angela Tyson, cousin Bruce Cherry - who was like a brother to him, nephews Chris Edmonson, his wife Terrylynn Edmondson and their three children Tenori, Tenai and Tahir, Albert Speller, Depree Speller, David Speller, his husband Kevin Batterberry and their son Milo, Daniel Speller, Darius Speller and his daughter Lilly, Corey Speller and his son Blaise, Devon Speller, nieces Sharonda Speller, Natasha Villanueva, her husband Ramon and their son Nakeem, Tiffany Simon, Kimberly Lyne, her husband Dannell and their two children Issac and Ava, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless individuals he considered nieces and nephews, dear friends and colleagues.
He was predeceased by his parents, Luther and Josephine Speller and two elder brothers, Albert and Joseph Speller.
Jeffrey was most proud of being an exceptional husband and father. He was the ultimate “girl dad,” and was Ciara and Morela’s biggest cheerleader. His girls were his world and the three of them lived a beautiful life together, with irreplaceable memories created as a family.
Rest in peace, our beloved Jeffrey. Your life was well lived, and the world is a lesser place without your bright light in it.
