Jill Kathleen Sieveking was born February 25, 1957 in New Albany, Indiana to Edwin and Lois Sieveking. Growing up, she lived in several different midwestern and Mid-Atlantic States and attended 11 different schools before graduating from George Washington High School in Charleston, West Virginia in 1975.
Jill considered herself fortunate to attend Wellesley College, where she majored in Political Science and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1979. She then moved to Washington D.C. and worked in public relations for the American Cancer Society. After 2 years, she attended law school at the University of Virginia, earning a J.D. degree in 1984.
She was admitted to the state bars of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She worked in Boston for the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office and the Department of Public Utilities. She soon moved to Concord, NH, to work for the New Hampshire State Legislature's Office of Legislative Services, where she worked for over 30 years and served as both deputy director and director of the 0ffice. She retired in April, 2017.
At different times of her life, Jill enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains, ballroom dancing, and tennis. She loved her cats and dogs, including Maggie and Annabelle who survive her. She was a fan of movies and a voracious reader of almost anything, including biographies, history, and mysteries. She enjoyed traveling to places where wildlife is abundant such as the US National Parks, the Galapagos Islands, and South Africa and Zimbabwe. She especially liked elephants and lions.
Jill met her husband of 23 years, Leonard Viens, in a ballroom dance class. They were married in 1994 and moved to Manchester to live in a house they decorated with folk and outsider art.
