Joanne G. Hanson, 93, of Concord, NH, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. She was born on January 17, 1932, in Concord, NH, to William Jr. and Dorothea (Wetmore) Goldthwaite.
Joanne was a talented and passionate artist who operated her own art studio for many years, sharing her creativity and love of the arts with her community. She was an active civic member and proudly served with the Junior Service League, including a term as president, and also a member of Amoskeag Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Manchester, NH. Professionally, Joanne worked as a respected medical secretary for several physicians on the Concord Hospital campus, where she was known for her dedication, caring, and professionalism.
Joanne is survived by her children Susan Faretra (Hanson) and her husband Michael of Bow, NH; Dayle Strickland (Hanson) of Pembroke, NH; Richard W. Hanson, Jr. of Concord, NH; Betsy Hanson of Greenland, NH; and Jennifer Mapes (Hanson) of Pembroke, NH. Grandchildren Gavin Faretra and wife Amanda; Meghan Potter (Faretra) and husband Nathan; Zachary Strickland and partner Kaesa Fortier; Whitney Strickland and husband AJ Fisher; Trevor Hanson; Ryan Edney; Jordan Mitchell, Garyn Mapes and wife Aubri, Matthew Mapes, and Casey Mapes. Great grandchildren Gabriella, Henley, Harper, Hayden, Nash, Braelyn, Lennex, Parker, Atreus and Brynnley. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn G. Avery of Wallingford, CT, and sister-in-law, Susan T. Goldthwaite of Meadville, PA, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews, and her dear cat, Charlie. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard W. Hanson, Sr.; her parents, William Jr. and Dorothea Goldthwaite; and her brothers, Robert, William, and Warren Goldthwaite.
Joanne will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, NH, during a privately attended service. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring; further details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amoskeag Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 95 Brook Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
