JoAnne M. Hughes passed away at the age of 77 at Brookdale Spruce Wood in Durham, NH, following a period of declining health.
JoAnne was born in August, 1947, the 2nd of 5 children born to Ferdinand and Marcelle Grimard. She was born and raised in the Manchester area and remained a local throughout her life. She attended Manchester Central High School, and upon graduating in 1966, she moved to Keene State College for a nursing program that would send her down the career path that would result in her life’s work - caring for others at a busy and thriving hospital environment.
After retiring from her 40+ years as a nurse at Catholic Medical Center, JoAnne loved to be kept busy with shopping, cooking, travelling and care taking for the various needs of her family, whether she was sharing a bedtime story, baking something delicious for a sports team spaghetti dinner or helping out with school supply shopping, JoAnne gave freely of both her time and her resources to any friend or family member who needed it.
JoAnne is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Christine Hughes; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Benjamin Clapp; her sisters Susan McHugh, Francine Chevrefils, Marcia Hanaway and her brother, Denis Grimard; and her grandchildren, Garrett and Gabrielle Hughes and Levi, Beatrice and Adler Clapp. JoAnne loved her grandchildren, and attended as many of their games, meets, scrimmages and tournaments as their biggest fan in the crowd, giving a loud “Wooo wooo!” from the sidelines.
She will be missed and fondly remembered by family, friends and neighbors for her humor and can-do approach to life. “JoJo” loved to throw a feast and dance to the music with those she loved.
In her honor, a private celebration of life service will be held in September by the family at the Puritan Back Room, one of JoAnne’s favorite local restaurants.
