John E. Bailey, 81, died Sunday, October 14, 2018 surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Warner. He was born on March 30, 1937 in Manchester, son of the late Arthur F. and Margaret (Gage) Bailey.
John had 10 years of schooling prior to joining the US Air Force at the age of 17. After serving four years in the Air Force he returned home and worked at Swanson Tool & Die. Later he moved to Penacook and worked for many years at Ferns Oil and Johnson & Dix before starting his own business, J B Burner Service.
In retirement he enjoyed traveling with great friends and camping in Maine. He also raced stock cars and enjoyed watching NASCAR. You could always find him puttering around his shop.
He is survived by his two children, Tim Bailey and wife Mary of Boscawen, and Donna McGinley and husband Tim of Warner; a brother, Arthur F. Bailey, Jr of Pittsburg; two step-children, Stephen Young of Florida and Karen Richard and husband Steve of Pembroke; as well as many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Arthur and Margaret, he was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Shirley, who passed away September 26, 2018; his sister, Mary who passed on April 13, 2010; and his best friend, his cat of 20 years, Punky.
SERVICES: A committal service and military honors will be in the chapel at the NH State Veteran's Cemetery on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 11:30am. Family and friends are invited to attend.
