JOHN E. BIGELOW

SUGAR HILL, NH – John E. Bigelow died on September 27, 2020 at the age of 85 years.

John was born on April 5, 1935 in Littleton, NH to Elton E. and Doris Elliott Bigelow. He graduated from Littleton High School in 1953 and later graduated from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. He joined his father's firm, E. E. Bigelow Electrical Contractors shortly after and was a master electrician (license #139) until his retirement in 2001.

He married Ruth Johnson Bigelow in 1957 and had two children, Ann and William. He married Katharine Holman Kirwan in 2001.

He became a Master Mason in 1959 and was a devoted member of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire for more than 60 years. A lifelong resident of the North Country, he was active in Burns Lodge No. 66 and on the Board of Directors for North Country Home Health in Littleton and the Littleton Cemetery Association. He dedicated much time to passing on his knowledge of electricity as he taught many students in the electrical apprentice program as an instructor for the NH Department of Education from 1989 through 2004. After moving to Sugar Hill, NH in 2001, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sugar Hill Historical Museum.

John is survived by his wife, Katharine Holman Bigelow (Sugar Hill, NH), daughter Ann Bigelow Weil (West Lafayette, IN), sons William E. Bigelow (Lebanon, NH) and Sam P. Stephenson (Franconia, NH) and granddaughters Hanna and Kathryn Weil (West Lafayette, IN). He is preceded in death by his mother and father (Elton E. and Doris E. Bigelow), sister (Nancy C. Bigelow) and wife (Ruth Johnson Bigelow).

John will be long remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. He was a friend to many and dearly loved by his family.
