John ''Jack'' L. Canty, 82, of Bradford, NH died March 27, 2001, at Harborside Northwood Health Care, Bedford, NH after a long illness. He was born on August 14, 1918, in Boston, Ma., the son of the late P. Russell and Winona (Ferguson) Canty and resided in Manchester prior to moving to Bradford in 1985. Jack was a graduate from Winterport, Maine High School, Class of 1938. He was in the US Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945. He was employed by General Adjustment Bureau in Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine. Was employed as an insurance adjustor for Employees Mutual Companies in Warwick, Rhode Island. In 1979, Mr. Canty was hired as a private investigator for Brown & Nixon until his retirement in 1986. He loved golfing, hunting and gardening. Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Family members include his wife of 40 years, Stella (Paradis) (Berube) Canty of Bradford, NH, two sons, William Canty of Lutz, Florida and Donald John Canty of Tampa, Florida, a daughter Mrs. S. Gregg (Jeanne) (Canty) Devine of Bedford, NH, three step sons, Maurice Berube of Auburn, Maine, Roger Berube of Poland Maine and Paul Berube of Lewiston, Maine, his predeceased son Richard Canty who died in 1979, a sister Winona (Canty) Reed of Frankfort, Maine, 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. SERVICES: Calling hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Thursday evening from 7 to 9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford, NH. Spring burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport, Maine.
