John "Jack" J. Callahan, III

John “Jack” Callahan, III, 69, of Goffstown, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Villager Retirement Assisted Living, in Goffstown, NH.  

Mr. Callahan was born on August 8, 1953, in Cambridge, MA, the son of the late John J. and Jean Marie (Haker) Callahan.

Jack was a veteran and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Callahan was employed by Direct TV and worked in the warehouse as well as an installer.   

He enjoyed going to Hampton Beach with his family. Mr. Callahan was an avid member of the HAM Radio community, Call Sign N1BGG. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. Jack has a love and passion for music, as he was a guitarist in the 70’s band, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. He had numerous electric and acoustic guitars that he played daily in his personal studio he created in his home.

Jack had a hobby of collecting all different kinds of electronics, as he was always up to date on the newest and trendiest of technology. He loved his numerous amounts of laptops, phones, tablets and many more.

He was very enthusiastic of astronomy. He loved star gazing with his elite telescope. He learned a lot about nebulas and up and coming planets, from his Astronomy magazine subscription.

Members of his family include; his five children, Christopher Callahan and his wife, Fawn, of Manchester, John Callahan, IV, of Manchester, Amie (Callahan) Ortiz, and her husband, Jimmy, of Derry, NH; Courtney of Cambridge, MA; and Andrew (Callahan) Girard, and fiancé Kimberly Ann Wiechert, of Portsmouth, NH; six grandchildren, Alyssa, John V. “Jojo”, Lysander, Lisa, Jr., Liam & Kyra, and his sisters, Janice and Gigi. Mr. Callahan was predeceased by his wife, Lydia (Boggess) Callahan who passed on August 20, 2014 and by his brothers, Bobby and Ricky.

SERVICES: A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 4 - 6 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. Flowers are welcomed and can be sent to the funeral home for the gathering.   

It has been suggested that donations can be made to the Manchester Animal Shelter in memory of Mr. Callahan because he loved his two cats, Sadie Mae and Salem, his bird, Rudy and dog, Shadow.
