John W. McKenna, Retired Professor John W. McKenna, 62, of Danville, NH died suddenly January 16, 2001, at the Elliot Hospital. He was born in West Warwick, Rhode Island on July 23, 1938, the son of the late James A. and Jeanne (Chagnon) McKenna and had been residing in Danville for 18 Years. John received his BA degree at Amherst College, Amherst, Ma., his Masters degree at Columbia University in New York and his PhD at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England where he was a fulbright Scholar. He was a professor at the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, the University California at Riverside and also Haverford College in Haverford, Pa. He was the author of numerous scholarly works in the area of medieval history and since his retirement he owned and operated a specialty apple orchard in Danville. He was a member of the Royal Historical Society. Family members include his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth (Davis) McKenna of Danville, NH, two sons, Christopher D. McKenna of Oxford, England and Edward T. McKenna of Boston, MA., a brother James A. McKenna of Thousand Oaks, Ca., a sister, Ellen-Jeanne McKenna-Hieb of Carlisle, Pa., several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, is in charge of arrangements.
