JOHN A. WHITNEY
BATH, NH John A. Whitney, 76, of 186 West Bath Road, passed away at his home on October 12th, after a long illness.
He was born on July 29, 1927 in Boston, MA, a son of Holman C. and Esther (Ash) Whitney of Bath. He was a graduate of Bath High School.
Mr. Whitney was a US Army veteran of World War II serving in the occupation forces in Japan.
For many years he was a poultry farmer and was employed by the United States Soil Conservation office in Woodsville, NH. He was also employed, until his retirement, at the New England Wire Corporation in Lisbon, NH.
Mr. Whitney was a member and past master of the Grafton-Kane Lodge No. 46, F. & A.M. in North Haverhill, NH. He was a former member of Pine Grove Grange in Bath, NH. Mr. Whitney served as a member of the Bath School Board and served on the board of cemetery commissioners for the town of Bath.
He was a devoted husband and father. He loved the outdoors and camping.
Surviving family members include his wife of 52 years, Rachel Marion (Knapp) Whitney; two sons, Stephen A. Whitney of Bath, NH, and John H. Whitney of Creede, Colorado; and one daughter, Barbara Whitney Dowling of Dover, NH.
SERVICES The family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14th at the Bath Congregational Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Alden Blake and Rev. Arthur Cheney officiating. Burial will follow in the Swiftwater Village Cemetery in Swiftwater, NH.
