LYMAN, NH. - Joseph M. Collins, 82, a Lyman resident passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Littleton Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Joseph was born May 13, 1926 in Framingham, MA, to Joseph and Jessie (Ambrosini) Collins. After graduating from high school, Joseph entered the U.S. Air Force and served for two years.
Joseph studied social work and graduated from Boston University, then went into teaching.
He married Virginia M. Sullivan in 1950.
Joseph was employed as the Director at Camp Hale on Squam Lake (a summer camp for boys) from 1951-1970. He was also employed as Assistant Headmaster at Friends Academy in North Dartmouth, MA from 1954-1970. Joseph was later employed as Assistant Headmaster at the Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, NH from 1971-1988. After retirement, he continued to work until his illness prevented him from doing so. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and a member of the Local Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Surviving family members include his wife, Virginia of Lyman, NH; his sons, Timothy Collins of Bethlehem, NH, Joseph (Jody) Collins of Maryland Heights, MO; his daughter, Virginia Collins of Portland, ME; his two grandchildren, Mitchell Collins, Cassie Collins; and his brothers, Edwin Collins of NC, James Collins of Mathuen, MA. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Collins.
SERVICES - Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union Street in Littleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Lisbon, NH with Rev. Fr. Daniel Sinibaldi as Celebrant.
