Joseph Couris, 99 years young, peacefully passed from this life on Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Manchester, NH following a brief illness. He was born on April 13, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Michael Joseph and Aphrodite (Kondili) Couris.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII as a Captain and pilot of the B-17 "Rose of York". Throughout his 30 year career with IBM, he and his family lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Indiana, and Rhode Island, finally retiring in New Hampshire in 1982.
Joe was a true gentleman who embodied the class and character of the Greatest Generation. He was honorable, faithful, and humble. He will be remembered for his kindness, charisma, and wit. Those whom he touched, until the very end, were honored and charmed by his presence.
In addition to his parents, Joe will be reunited in Heaven with his cherished wife of 61 years, Eleanor (Smarkola), their newborn daughter Eleanor Joanne, two sisters and their husbands: Agnes and Joe Ragg, Dorothy and Bill Dardaris, and a great many dear family and friends.
Joe leaves behind his three sons and their spouses, Geoffrey Joseph and his wife Diane of Amherst, Michael Joseph and wife Carol of Hooksett, and Matthew Joseph; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a large and close-knit Albanian family in the Philadelphia area.
Services: All are welcome to attend Joseph's memorial service via livestream on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 3:00PM. The livestream can be accessed by visiting www.phaneuf.net/streaming and entering the password "streaming". Joseph will be interred at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at a later date.
