Josephine Evelyn Sad

Josephine Evelyn (Maciejewski) Sad, 102, passed away on Wednesday May 14, 2025, with family by her side.

Born on September 12, 1922, in Derry, NH, she was the daughter of Joseph and Urszula (Galuszka) Maciejewski.

Josephine lived an incredible life. Growing up during the Great Depression, she was a huge help to her parents and helped to raise and care for her younger siblings.

She joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and honorably served her country during World War II, receiving the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. She spent her time in the army as a sewing machine operator, but also as a Guard Patrolman.

Josephine met and married the love of her life, Allen J. Sad in 1949. She loved being a military wife, her husband also serving the country, they traveled all over the world together. They raised four children together until Allen’s passing in 1981.

She was an amazing friend to those she knew. She kept in touch with many of her lifelong friends, always making sure to spend time with them all. Even as her friends passed, she kept in touch with their children and continued the traditions she had with their mothers.

One of the things that Josephine loved was Country Line Dancing. She was a professional line dancer in Nashua, NH. She was known for her graceful and precise dance moves.

She was a very creative person and worked with ceramics for several years. Baking was one of her specialties and she loved to make Christmas cookies. When she wasn’t creating, she spent a lot of time shopping at the Burlington Mall.

Josephine was always positive. She never complained and always had something nice to say. She brought a lot of joy to those around her.

Her biggest passion was her family.

Josephine is predeceased by her loving husband, Allen Sad, her parents; Joseph and Urszula Maciejewski, her sisters; Althea Maciejewski and Florence Andersson, her brothers; Walter Maciejewski and John Maciejewski, and her best friends; Fleurette "Flo" Farabaugh, and Irene Franzen.

She is survived by her three sons; Allen Sad, Mark Sad and his wife Kathleen, and Craig Sad, her daughter; Karin (Sad) Haessly and her husband Patrick, her brother; Joe Maciejewski, her bonus children; Terry Franzen Seavey, Nina Donati, and Joyce Slack, Her close friend, Evelyn Donati, Her Grandchildren; Jennifer Bergeron, Lauren and Rod Egret, Collin and Tiffany Sad, and her great-grandchildren; Fern Sad, Sigrid Sad, Jackie Bergeron, and Sawyer Bergeron, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be private at this time.
