Josephine F. (Paladino) Schmidt, Smith, 88, died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Lakes Region Elder Care, in Laconia.
Mrs. Smith was born on May 22, 1920, in Scilla, Italy, and immigrated to the United States of America at age 6.
Raised in NJ, she attended Douglas College, as a music major. She later became a member of Phil Spitalnyâs All Girl Orchestra, and performed with Leopold Stowkowskiâs Orchestra, where she met the loved of her life, Charles James Smith. She was an active violin and piano teacher in Wellesley, MA. She was soloist and first violinist in the Wellesley Community Orchestra, as well as soloist with the Boston Symphony Childrenâs Series.
Members of his family include; 3 daughters, Joanne Mallove, of Bow, NH; Suzanne Howard, of Mendham, NJ; and Diane Lipowski, of Massachusetts; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Sylvester Paladino, of NJ.
SERVICES: A memorial gathering will be Wednesday, July 30, from 9:00 â 10:00 A.M. at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, corner of Union Street, in Manchester. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Alzheimerâs Association, 1 Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110, in memory of Mrs. Smith.
