Julia Sokolowski, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Windham Terrace in Windham, New Hampshire.
Born in Greece on October 20, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Eugenia (Zapsalis) Papadimitriou.
Julia was the beloved wife of the late Michael Sokolowski. They shared 46 years of marriage before Michael’s passing in 2014.
A dedicated educator, Julia graduated with her Masters in English from Rivier University (formerly Rivier College). She taught at Elm Street Junior High School in Nashua, New Hampshire, for more than 30 years. Julia believed in the importance of education and worked tirelessly to encourage and inspire every student who entered her classroom.
Julia found joy in life’s beauty. She loved the flowers of spring and summer, gourmet cooking, and creating elegant holiday celebrations for her family. She also had a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts and was fortunate to see legendary entertainers such as Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra at the height of their fame. She especially enjoyed attending theater productions in Boston and New York City, where she saw beloved musicals including The Phantom of the Opera and Cats.
She is lovingly survived by her sisters, Frances Arrigo and her husband, Philip, and Catherine Desjarlais; her nieces, Alyssa Arrigo Jaques and her husband, Brian Jaques, Kristin Arrigo, and Laura Desjarlais; and extended family and friends who will cherish her memory. Julia was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Harold Desjarlais.
