Julien "Jay" Houle

Julien "Jay" Houle, age 78, passed away on March 5, 2025. He was born in Manchester, NH on June 27, 1946, the eldest child of Gwynneth (Wenzel Houle and Julien N. Houle. As a proud lifelong resident of Manchester, NH, Jay flourished in his involvement in many highly regarded state institutions. He was a graduate of Bishop Bradley High School in 1964 where he especially enjoyed playing the Trumpet in the marching band. He graduated from Keene State College in 1968 and received a second degree in Finance from Southern New Hampshire University. He proudly served his country in the NH Air National Guard for six years, stationed locally at Pease Air Force Base.

Jay had a variety of careers throughout his adult life. As an avid historian, his early career began by teaching Social Studies at Hillside Jr. High School until computer technology sparked his interest. He worked in numerous positions within the banking industry. In later years, Jay returned to his original passion by serving as chief accountant at the Museum of NH History in Concord and finally completing his career in the Rockingham County Finance Dept. until he retired in 2012.

During his leisure time, Jay's primary interest focused on exploring world cultures. In addition to being an avid traveler, he attended many cultural performances - concerts, opera, ballet and art exhibits both here and abroad. He traveled to six continents, embracing their unique cultures and traditions. As a proud New Englander, he visited many historical sites unique to the local area - Boston, Mystic, Portland, Newport, Burlington, VT as well as the mountains and seashore in NH. When not traveling, Jay's day-to-day hobbies included collecting coins, preparing and sharing gourmet meals for his many friends, and attending regular bible study sessions.

Jay is survived by his sister, Sharyn Huot and her husband, Denis, of Goodyear, AZ; a nephew, Michah Huot, and his wife Sharon of Charlotte, NC; and two nieces, Meredith Balensiefer and her husband Eric of Cave Creek, AZ, and Melissa Poghossian of Peoria, AZ.

SERVICES: Burial will take place this Spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
